US191 Flaming Gorge(sh)-1

US191 on the east side of Flaming Gorge Reservoir is a great paved ride, at least if you mange to pick a less windy day. This little shoulder summit point only qualifies as a summit point if you start from lake level at both sides. This is not so difficult on the south side, since US191 crosses the Green River a few miles before. But on the north side you have to take a gravel road to get low enough. So even if the highest point is paved, I put this in the unpaved category. The pictures were not taked from US191, but from the lowest part of this northern side, where a dirt road serves as the lowest part of the profile.

elevation profile for this summit point is included on page:

Approaches

From North.
According to the map, from Flaming Gorge water level it is just about 500ft of climbing ot the top, which is enough to call it a summit for these pages. When you start from the very bottom of the very picturesque dead-end road from "Little Hole", a term of endearment for trappers regarding the hunting, you even eek out a little more elevation gain. Another closer paved alternative as starting point for the profile could also be the Flaming Gorge access road FR145. As for this summit point on US191, not much happening there.

From South. (described downwards) You can get the 300ft of elevation gain on US191. But in order to get the 500ft you have to take unpaved Spring Creek Rd and follow it back down to the shore of Flaming Gorge Reservoir. It is from this vantage point, where there are the best potential views of the Uinta Range in the distance. And these photos are what motivated me really to put together the page. After that US191 starts climbing to a more substantial summit.
