Ut1364 Brown's Park Rd s(u)-2
The second summit on Brown's
Park Rd tops out 20 or 30ft lower than the
first, but its bottom is 1000ft lower. I guess
they don't call it a hole for nothing.
Actually "hole" is also an old fur trapper
designation for fertile hunting grounds. This
must be the best hidden 10 to 12 percent paved
climb in the state of ... I want to say
Colorado. But actually we are still in Utah at
this point, but not by much. Best hidden also
means least traffic.
Approaches
From East. In Clay
Basin Ut1364 passes a few oil wells and also a
turnoff to a alternate connection between Ut1364
and US191. From here the good all weather
unpaved road connects very close to the highest
point on US191 between Dutch John and Green
River, where it crosses an slice of Unitas.
While looking back during the several hundred
feet of climbing to this Ut1364 summit, the flat
summit of Little Mountain was still lined with
snow, and look deceptively high.
Shortly thereafter Ut1364 turns about 90 degrees
to the right at a another junction. This turnoff
road leads to the Three-Corners Monument. There
are several points where 3 corners of states
meet, and I wonder how many are marked with a
monuments. The top is quickly reached,
From West. (described
downwards). This is the major grade on Brown's
Park Rd. The wide steep road is wonderfully
clear of traffic. After the first several
hundred feet of riding the brakes, a right turn
brakes out onto an open decent into the valley
with the Green River as goal.
