CR33 Flaming Gorge Rd(sh) -1
Flaming Gorge Road tries to
follow the eastern shore of Flaming Gorge
Reservoir. Because of the many elongated bays
this is not really possible, and so the road
ties together many of the out-and-back spurs
to its shoreline on the Wyoming side. This
summit is the southern most summit point on
this road, and it can have pretty amazing far
views of the Uinta Mountains.

Approaches
From East. Shortly
after having crossed into Wyoming, US191 offers
the gravel thirsty cyclist an oportunity to turn
off direction Flaming Gorge. The map marks this
road as CR33 Flaming Gorge Rd, and shortly after
taking the offer you discover a sign that says
Rock Springs (or Green River) with a larger
milage than US191 has to offer. But it's good to
know that this road actually goes through.
A climb on a good surface offers
increasingly dramatic views of distant snow
covered high Uinta ridges as the road quickly
reaches a crest. But after resting and enjoying
the views, it turns out this is only a way
point. After a small decent the road winds
around and climbs further. The actual top is an
unmarked intersection (as all other
intersections). But intuition would lead to
suspect that Flaming Gorge Rd goes to Flaming
Gorge, and it is clearly visible to the west,
below and impressively stark and distant.
Turning right here would lead slightly higher
and back direction US191.
From West. (described
downwards) You see what you get in Wyoming.
There is, at least here, little to obstruct the
far and windy views. The reservoir shimmers
below and the road heads for it.
