Elkhorn Cutoff Rd(sh)
This is the highest point when
you combine the Lander Cutoff Rd on one side
(part of the GDMBR), and then a detour to the
GDMBR through somewhat deeper sand on the
other. Not as nice and the Lander Cutoff
itself, but it lends itself to be combined in
a dayride with the former.

Approaches
From West.Unlike the
Lander Cutoff Rd with its perfectly medalled
cycling surface, and the almost perfect gravel
surface of the Elkhorn - Big Sandy Rd, this
approach is really sandy in numerous spots. It
made me get off the bike to walk a few steps
many times. The approach is also seems places a
fairly steep climb. It does not look that way on
the profile, but it felt that way, probably
because of the surface. It is definitely not the
set of endless rollers of the other approaches
to this point. From where you cross Sandy Creek,
you can see the road stretched out like a single
long spaghetti heading upstairs. After the
possibly strenuous little climb, the road passes
a scenic set ot rocks eroding in typical Dakota
Sandstone fashion, and then it's just a
few more gentle turns to the junction with the
Lander Cutoff Rd, which is the shoulder summit.
From East.
(described downwards) Continuing direction
Big Sandy Trailheads goes over a slightly higher
point. So, since the profile wants to make the
junction a shoulder summit, practically all of
the eastern approach of the Lander Cutoff is
included here.

intermediate summit is on page : Lander
